When coaches checked the equipment, they found a cottonmouth snake hiding beneath the padding, according to local news reports.
The snake measured about 2 feet long and had taken shelter inside the helmet.
The coaches secured the helmet until Maumelle Animal Services arrived to remove the snake.
After coaxing the cottonmouth from the football player’s helmet, Maumelle Animal Services relocated it to a wooded area away from the school.
