Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is making moves to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s garments and textiles sector.
BGMEA represents 4,500 readymade garment industry factories, with a special focus on woven garments, knitwear, and sweaters.
During the meeting, the attendees from OCAIB also emphasized the need for foreign investment to strengthen backward linkage and the upper supply chain of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.
About 80 percent of the raw materials used in Bangladesh’s apparel industry originate in China, according to Bangladesh’s Textile Today.
BGMEA also announced the Bangladesh International Textile and Apparel Machinery Exhibition, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA).
