Inspects Rohingya settlement in JammuJammu Tawi, Aug 11: A Government-appointed high-level panel examining demographic changes visited Jagti township, the largest designated settlement for displaced Kashmiri Pandits, and inspected a Rohingya settlement in Jammu on Tuesday, officials said. Social activist Sunil Pandita said the delegation was apprised of various issues faced by Kashmiri Pandits since 1990 and expressed hope that their concerns would be reflected in the committee’s report. Lawyer Vishva Ranjan Pandita urged the government to recognise Kashmiri Pandits as victims and survivors of genocide and sought safeguards for their safe and dignified return to the Valley. Later, the committee inspected the Rohingya settlement in the Narwal area and met several delegations at its hotel. According to the government, the panel will scientifically assess demographic changes in different parts of the country, analyse their causes and recommend appropriate policy, legislative and administrative measures.
