House of the Dragon has never shied away from lore changes, but Season 3's finale was a final nail in the coffin of canon.
The TV series has compressed the timeline and made it so that shortly after Rook's Rest, Aemond forced Aegon out of the capital with threats to kill him.
Now, in the TV series, these characters have been brought back together through Aegon's return to glory with Sunfyre and Aemond's Harrenhal depression arc.
Given that the book series combined Nettles into Rhaena, his daughter, this story was much more limited, and the writers needed somewhere else to send Daemon.
In the TV series, it's hard to see what direct impact it will have, aside from its thematic depth.
