Raw Story
Democrats have a lot of questions for President Donald Trump's White House about a sudden about-face on a tariff exemption after the president was gifted a garish and expensive custom ring.
According to the report, the timeline raises serious questions of international influence-buying, with one critic calling it a "cartoonish bribe."
When the U.S. Trade Representative's office published its proposed exemption list on June 5, diamonds were not included.
On July 24, diamonds mysteriously appeared on the final tariff exemption list.
Belgium's diamond industry had previously won a full tariff exemption in September 2025, only to lose it in February 2026 when the Supreme Court struck down the legal basis for Trump's original tariffs.
