Microsoft says a software update fixing the bug behind a 16-hour Xbox outage in late July is now rolling out and will become mandatory for all users by August 17, 2026.
Xbox chief technology officer Scott Van Vliet said in a post on X that the update is already reaching some users and will be required for all Xbox users by August 17, 2026.
The outage began late on July 26 and lasted roughly 16 hours before Microsoft restored service at 2:30pm PDT on July 27.
During that window, players across Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S could not sign in, view their full game libraries, or launch titles they had already purchased, including disc-based games.
