Μake us preferred on GoogleWednesday’s total solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path stretching from the Arctic Ocean across the North Pole, Greenland and Iceland to northern Spain and northeastern Portugal, being the first visible from mainland Spain since 1905.
Besides astronomers, meteorologists will also be closely studying the phenomenon on Wednesday, as a total solar eclipse does more than transform the appearance of the sky.
During the 2017 total solar eclipse over the United States, temperatures fell by about 4.5C in Kentucky and by 2 to 3 degrees at some locations in Oklahoma.
Winds can also change as solar heating is abruptly interrupted, atmospheric turbulence weakens and wind speeds can temporarily decline.
Yet the eclipse provides a rare natural experiment: within minutes, solar heating is sharply reduced and then restored.
