A year after losing his career, Burnside and his wife, Angel, are now the legal guardians of new graduate Hayes. He has celebrated holidays and birthdays with Burnside, his wife Angel, and his six new siblings. After Hayes was ordered to withdraw, Burnside noted that teachers and coaches at Lakota East were eager to support him. The Lakota principal met with Hayes and his coach, Clint Adkins, leading Hayes to feel the principal could offer the stability he sought. Still, district leaders declared at his November hearing that he could no longer be an “effective leader” at Lakota East.
