San Francisco transit workers took to Muni buses and trains Tuesday for SFMTA's first "Fare Day Out," an effort to encourage riders to pay their fares. Transit workers wearing brightly colored vests and carrying signs traveled along various transit lines to educate riders about fare options and the consequences of not paying. SFMTA said fare revenue is $18 million above projections due to growing ridership and increased fare compliance. SFMTA is reporting a budget deficit of more than $300 million for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
