GEN Restaurant Group Inc., the Cerritos-based parent of the GEN Korean BBQ chain, has received a letter of intent (LOI) from an unnamed buyer to acquire the company’s restaurant operations. The proposed transaction is valued at approximately $100 million and allows GEN to keep its growing consumer-packaged goods (CPG) business. “We believe a transaction of this nature could make strategic sense: focusing GEN entirely on our CPG business, where revenue growth is accelerating rapidly,” Chairman and Chief Executive David Kim said in a statement. Shares jumped 11% to $2.02 apiece with a $66 million market cap during midday trading on Tuesday (Nasdaq: GENK). Read more in an upcoming edition of the Business Journal.
