More than 5.3 million fewer people receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, according to new data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). USDA numbers show that as of April 2026, just over 37 million people enrolled in SNAP, a decrease of more than 5.3 million year over year. Florida, Georgia and Louisiana saw their SNAP benefits drop more than 20%. SNAP benefits will decline 20% over the next 10 years, which calculates to $186 billion. SNAP sales account for about 5.3% of Ahold Delhaize's total U.S. sales, the company said.
