Harvest Algoma is getting some financial support from city council as it stabilizes its finances. Council approved a three-year financial commitment totalling $135,000 to the food recovery and food security operation. Thompson said there is an intense demand for assistance and the city’s funding will support Harvest Algoma in its quest to rescue more food. “Harvest Algoma has come a long way from three or four years ago,” said Mayor Matthew Shoemaker. Harvest Algoma is also charged with providing nutritious breakfasts for children during the summer months under the mayor’s Every Breakfast Counts program.
