Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday demanded that the state government provide fair compensation to residents losing their lands, houses and commercial buildings for the Rajiv Rahadari expansion project. Rao, who participated in a protest by affected residents at Karkhana, said the people were not opposed to development and were cooperating with the road expansion project undertaken in the public interest. However, he said those surrendering their properties must be compensated according to prevailing market values. Referring to the enhanced compensation announced for affected landowners in Thumkunta, Rao demanded similar or higher compensation for residents of Karkhana, pointing out that the area falls in a more expensive urban zone. Rao assured the affected families of the BJP’s support and urged the Congress government to increase compensation by an appropriate percentage and ensure justice to those sacrificing their properties for the public project.
