Andy Manske, a 27-year-old medical service technician from the Milwaukee suburbs, is running against overwhelming odds in Wisconsin’s Republican primary for governor, taking on Congressman Tom Tiffany, the party’s Trump-endorsed frontrunner, in his first-ever bid for public office. By virtually every measurable metric, Manske faces a daunting uphill battle against Tiffany, who has already consolidated support from the bulk of the Wisconsin Republican establishment. A Marquette University Law School poll conducted this month found Manske drawing just 1 per cent support among likely GOP primary voters, compared with 32 per cent for Tiffany, according to Wisconsin Public Radio. Even acknowledging the near-certain outcome, Manske has continued framing his candidacy around the principle that voters deserve options within their own party. Speaking on the City Cast Madison podcast weeks ahead of the primary, Manske discussed his approach to campaigning as “just a guy,” arguing the label itself was his advantage against a well-funded, establishment-backed opponent.
