MATERNITY service at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital have been rated Good by health watchdogs. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) upgraded the provision from Requires Improvement following an inspection in June. It also noted that some women were ‘still waiting too long to be seen’ at night and weekends. Margaret Garbett, chief nurse at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are pleased that the significant progress made within maternity services at Heartlands Hospital has been recognised. As the CQC hasn’t inspected every service area since University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust took over the running of Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, there is no overall rating for the hospital.
