Since 1998, more than 5,000 Doodles have been created, mostly by a team of in-house artists (called "Doodlers"), though they sometimes partner with guest artists (The Story and Evolution of Doodles, Google Doodles, n.d.). But what is the social significance of Doodles, and why does queer representation in Doodles matter? This is surprising because the construction of Doodles is built from the Doodle principles to “educate users by humanizing the search engine through artistic storytelling” (The Story and Evolution of Doodles, Google Doodles, n.d.). The Current Universe of Queer DoodlesSource: Queer Doodles (2017 to 2026)/Meredith WorthenUsing Google Doodle library’s search engine (Search Our Doodle Library Collection, Google Doodles, n.d.), I located a total of 28 LGBTQ-related content Doodles by searching the following keywords: LGBTQ, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, pride, rainbow, LGB, and activism. With only 28 existing queer Doodles and the number of annual queer Doodles plummeting in recent years, we need more queer Doodles!
