PHALOMBE, JUNE 12 2015 (CISA) – Episcopal Conference of Malawi Development Commission (CADECOM) has rolled out several projects to provide “sustainable and long term response to people whose livelihood was affected by this year’s flood disaster.” According to CADECOM’s National Secretary, Carsterns Mulume, the projects are aimed at cushioning the shocks that these people incur or might face in future disasters. The projects being implemented include the Resilience Project and the Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF III) in which communities are being trained to practice environmental friendly farming by being provided with treadle pumps, seeds and winter cropping. Chiwalo’s Area in Phalombe District are run with financial assistance from the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Torrential rains wreaked havoc across Malawi in January, killings hundreds, displacing over 250,000 people and devastated crops according to the UN.
