Tonight’s swim was just 0.01 seconds off the British record of 1:04.96 that Evans set back in April, and is her second-fastest swim ever. Tonight was her slowest opening 50 by three tenths of a second and her only one over 31 seconds – but her second 50 was the first time she has closed in under 34 seconds. This season she has broken the record just once, with the 1:04.96 being the first swim of the five by date. She moved to the University of Stirling, where she regained her love of swimming, and placed 3rd in the 100 breast at the 2023 British Championships in a new lifetime best of 1:08.05. She now looks well placed to win her first continental title and break her British record.
