Google expands submarine cable network to Dominican Republic

Google announced plans to expand its submarine cable network in the Americas, adding the Dominican Republic to four new connectivity routes linking the country with the United States, South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
New routes for the Dominican RepublicAlisios will connect the Dominican Republic with Panama and Chile, creating a new data route between the Caribbean and South America.
Google will also extend the Firmina submarine cable to the Dominican Republic.
The announcement was made by Brian Quigley, vice president of Global Network Infrastructure at Google Cloud.
The expansion will also strengthen Panama’s role as a regional connectivity hub through its new connection with the Dominican Republic and Chile.
