Ron Mackenzie made his way to the remote village of Rhodes in the Eastern Cape on 10 August 2026, hoping to catch the mountain hamlet in full winter glory. Nestled in the Drakensberg foothills near the Lesotho border, Rhodes is one of South Africa's smallest and most historic villages. When snow falls there, it transforms the cobbled streets, old stone buildings and surrounding peaks into something straight out of a storybook. Sheep in the snow steal the showMackenzie filmed the scene in a selfie-style video, panning across the snow-covered village as he described settling in for the cold.
