Despite more than two weeks of protests by female students of Dhaka University demanding changes to restrictions on entering their residential halls at night, the university authorities have yet to take any visible initiative to address the issue. The students began protesting on July 27 with a three-point demand: scrapping the restriction that bars female students from entering their residential halls between 10:00pm and 6:00am; allowing female relatives of students to enter women’s halls; and allowing non-resident students and students of other halls to enter any hall with valid identity cards and, with permission, stay overnight. The movement initially began under the banner of “Boishommohin Nari Hall Chai”. She said they were mobilising residential students to take tougher action. Nusrat Jahan Jerin of Nari Hall Songskar Andolon said they met the VC yesterday with their memorandum and submitted signatures collected from students.
