Yet our democratic freedoms to protest have also been eroded in NSW over the last few years. Just recently the NSW Police Commissioner accepted all nine recommendations from a review and we see police having court costs found against them, dropping charges that have thus far been proved unlawful. Hopefully we will enjoy legal and political restorations of the rights to and manner of protesting in general and against fossil fuel extraction, transportation, use and export in particular. Newcastle may return to its previously good relations with both protesters and police.
