Local telecommunications provider Africa Online and communications firm Radio Electronic have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to evaluate how OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology can expand high-speed broadband access across remote and underserved regions. The strategic partnership aims to address connectivity gaps in geographically challenging areas where expanding conventional fiber and terrestrial wireless infrastructure remains cost-prohibitive or physically impractical. Beyond expanding primary access, the evaluation will explore using satellite technology to enhance enterprise network redundancy, business continuity, and mission-critical backup systems. Africa Online brings experience as an enterprise ICT, cloud, and security service provider, while Radio Electronic contributes expertise in radio systems, infrastructure integration, and commercial-grade connectivity. Du Toit noted that Namibia’s vast landscape demands flexible hybrid technology models capable of supporting economic activity in isolated environments.
