Hosted by New Orleans musicians and educators Herlin Riley and Lula Elzy, the program will feature conversations with Bazzle, known as the “First Lady of Jazz,” and acclaimed R&B and jazz pianist Lawrence Cotton. The oral history program will also feature a live musical set with Derek Douget, Oscar Rossignoli, Peter Harris and Herlin Riley. Live Music in Conversation is presented by Jazz Generations Initiative New Orleans in partnership with Lula Elzy and co-sponsored by the Jazz and Heritage Foundation Wein Center. The event is part of the Jazz Generations Initiative’s Oral History Project, which documents long-form interviews with musicians and artists in New Orleans and New York. Its New Orleans program serves as an interdisciplinary residency, fellowship and creative hub inspired by the city’s connections to the African diaspora, the Gulf South and the broader Global South.
