New Delhi: Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood on Tuesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of ignoring what he described as a larger conspiracy behind the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, alleging that the violence was deliberately timed with then-US President Donald Trump’s India visit to attract international attention.
Speaking in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Sood questioned the response of AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh and Amanatullah Khan, towards former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain after allegations emerged against him.
Sood highlighted what he called contradictions in AAP’s position, citing Kejriwal’s earlier statement that any AAP leader found guilty should face “double punishment”.
He contrasted this with a March 2020 statement attributed to Amanatullah Khan defending Hussain and alleging that he was being targeted because he was a Muslim.
Sood also recalled the killing of IB officer Ankit Sharma in Chand Bagh on February 25, describing it as one of the most disturbing incidents of the riots.
