The protesters, mobilised under the banner of affected border-area Kuki chiefs, assembled at Khengjang and Molcham villages and strongly objected to the proposed alteration of the existing boundary position. The proposed realignment of Boundary Pillars 65 at Molcham, 66 at Jangngoulen, 67 at Khumkot and 68 at Joldam has emerged as a major point of contention. “This is not merely a question of boundary pillars. The affected chiefs maintained that any unilateral alteration of the existing boundary position would be unacceptable, asserting that the frontier land represents generations of ancestral possession and livelihood. The affected chiefs asserted that while boundaries may be defined on official maps, the land and its historical connection with the people cannot be altered solely through administrative decisions.
