The Hiram Clarke/Fort Bend Redevelopment Authority received a $500,000 grant from the EPA to assess “brownfield sites” — properties where lingering hazardous materials can make it difficult to redevelop a neighborhood.
Situated along Fuqua Street in southwest Houston, near the Sims Bayou Trail and a park, there was an abandoned gas station.
In 2023, Wilson said, the redevelopment authority acquired the abandoned gas station and demolished it.
"Now you're going to have added green space in an area where the community was afraid to use the park," Wilson said.
The redevelopment authority will be soliciting community feedback.
