Mark Pope was a little late to the game in assembling Kentucky Basketball’s, and his approach is still a bit unorthodox: a front office team instead of a designated general manager. Beyond those four, Pope says all of his assistant coaches speak to agents, making roster management a staff-wide effort. “I think in hindsight there are places where we’ve made some great decisions that have kept us out of harm’s way, and I think that’s done because for us, it’s so collaborative. We don’t just have one person designated [as a GM], that’s just ubiquitously making all of the decisions. But let me get to the one guy that’s making all the decisions.
