He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission has released its key 2026 recommendations on national adaptation, putting funding, local planning and Māori-led adaptation among the major issues requiring Government action. IWI AND MĀORI NEED THEIR OWN PATHWAYOne of the Commission’s six recommendations specifically addresses iwi and Māori. Responsibility would sit with the Climate Change Minister alongside the Minister for Māori Development. Climate change does not only threaten individual houses and infrastructure. NEXT ADAPTATION PLAN MUST DRIVE ACTIONThe Commission’s final recommendation is aimed at ensuring the next National Adaptation Plan produces action rather than simply another strategy.
