The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has refuted claims that it awarded a degree to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, stating unequivocally that he never completed his studies at the institution. The university DID NOT and COULD NOT have issued the purported certificate,” the Vice-Chancellor wrote. The revelation follows an investigative report by Premium Times, which uncovered discrepancies in both the minister’s UNN degree certificate and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate. University officials reportedly told the newspaper that Nnaji failed core courses and was advised to withdraw from the Biochemistry and Microbiology programme. As of press time, neither Nnaji nor the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology had issued an official response to the university’s statement.
