In 1874 Draper published a fairly short work titled History of the Conflict between Religion and Science.
But in an age where most such institutions had at least a nominal religious religious principle at its foundation, this seemed too radical to some and the proposal was criticised as dangerously irreligious.
As noted above, religion and science certainly can come into conflict, but the Conflict Thesis claims this is their natural state.
