The 2002 movie character Roger Ebert called “the most unforgettably weird villain” he’d seen in yearsRoger Ebert was one of the most important cultural writers of the 20th century.
Sometimes, however, a work of fiction doesn’t set out to make others “happier”; quite the opposite reaction, really.
In his review of Talking Lives, the critic wrote kindly of his 2002 work, The Salton Sea, which “included the most unforgettably weird villains in recent memory; you remember Vincent D’Onofrio’s Pooh-Bear and his little plastic nose”.
The American actor is set to be resurrected by AI in the forthcoming movie, As Deep as the Grave.
If Ebert were alive today, I’d guess that this would trump Pooh Bear on the ‘frightening as fuck’ scale any day.
