Workers suffering from anxiety or depression are more likely to claim benefits after receiving advice from government job coaches, official figures show. NHS talking therapies are designed to help people with mild to moderate mental health conditions such as depression. The ONS did not explain why people who were already in work were more likely to claim benefits after receiving employment support. However, it suggests that job coaches may be helping workers access additional financial support, as well as offering career advice. Previous ONS analysis also found that workers with stress, depression or anxiety were less likely to remain in employment after talking to job coaches.
