Actor Mourns Bengali Cinema’s Lack Of Visibility In IndiaNEW DELHI-Bengali cinema may boast an unquestionable legacy and a rich contribution to world cinema, but Bengali superstar Jeet feels it has not always received the recognition it deserves in mainstream India. Talking about Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s praise for legendary Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s ‘Pather Panchali’, Jeet expressed hope that authentic and powerful storytelling will eventually bring Bengali cinema the wider recognition it deserves. Asked whether Bengali cinema, despite its immense global legacy, does not get the recognition it deserves in mainstream India, Jeet said, “It’s really unfortunate in a way that a cinema culture which has contributed so much to world cinema doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves in mainstream India.” He added, “Bengali cinema has never lacked greatness—it has only lacked the scale of visibility that some other industries enjoy. Our legacy is unquestionable, and I believe that if we continue telling authentic, powerful stories, recognition will naturally follow.
