Culver Square Shopping Centre submitted a planning application to transform the square back in June.
Plans have been approved and the shopping centre now has permission to remove the fountain and sculpture which has been there since it first opened in 1988.
“The submitted details shall include the proposed location of the sculpture; and the arrangements and timescales for public accessibility and display.”
The old seating in Culver Square will be replaced with “a suite of street furniture which is flexible” and can be moved around depending on the event.
Castle ward councillor Mark Goacher said: "Any events which increase footfall into the Culver Square area I would fully support.
