KoSSevAs the Kosovo Police begin patrolling the main bridge over the Ibar River in Kosovska Mitrovica - which divides the city into a Serb-dominated north and a predominantly ethnic Albanian south - the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) told N1 that while bridge security is the responsibility of KFOR and the Kosovo Police, an EULEX unit is conducting regular mobile reconnaissance patrols “including - but not limited to - the vicinity of the bridge” to maintain situational awareness. In a response to N1, KFOR stated that the NATO-led KFOR mission has begun a gradual transition of the permanent KFOR presence from the Main Bridge in Mitrovica. “In line with the improved security situation in Kosovo, this is part of the process for optimizing KFOR’s posture. This process will be gradual, conditions based, and is being closely coordinated with all relevant stakeholders, including representatives of the Institutions in Kosovo and of international organizations, as well as with representatives of the Kosovo Police and the EULEX,” KFOR said. The mission added that Serbian Chief of Defense General Milan Mojsilovic has “also been regularly informed” of the developments.
