MOORHEAD — Somewhere in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center in March 2025, Chip Ammerman watched with pride as the Moorhead Spuds hoisted the program’s first boys hockey state championship trophy. In the rich history of Moorhead hockey, Chip Ammerman often played an understated role in the program's future success. He served as the Moorhead Youth Hockey director for 12 years from 1992 to 2003. Those who knew Chip Ammerman remembered him as a kind, even-keeled friend, who never raised his voice. “It’s hard to put into words how much he has meant to Moorhead Youth Hockey,” Shercliffe said.
