This afternoon, August 11, R-Bar on Marine Parade announced it will be closing at the end of September.
It cited rising operating costs, business rates, and the cost of living among reasons behind its closure.
The news comes only days after neighbouring venue, Charles Street Tap, announced it would be closing its doors after 25 years.
Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, Councillor Bella Sankey said the closures are "heartbreaking" and said the council will work with other city venues to protect their future.
“It is a stark reminder that we need to do all we can to protect our cultural venues and our LGBTQI+ venues in particular which are part of Brighton’s core identity.
