Kubista Communication UnitUniversity of Gothenburg11.08.2026 08:30Researchers have identified seven proteins in the blood that could enable better blood tests for Alzheimer’s disease. Historically, diagnosis has primarily relied on cognitive changes, which manifest at a later stage of the disease. However, their ability to determine the disease stage and predict disease progression remains limited, especially when compared to PET scans. The study results show that including additional proteins significantly improved the ability of p-tau217 to predict advanced tau pathology in individuals with elevated levels of amyloid plaques. "We identified a panel of seven proteins, including p-tau217, that could improve the blood test's ability to determine when a patient exhibits a disease profile corresponding to a late stage.
