A Colorado State Patrol trooper, his K9 dog and an elderly couple smashed into each other during a multi-car crash near Loveland Ski Area this morning, closing both sides of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels for nearly four hours. It started around 10:46 a.m. State patrol reports the trooper was parked on the shoulder of eastbound I-70 near the tunnels when he heard a radio call for a crash downhill. He activated his emergency lights and was turning onto the interstate when a Subaru Forester struck his patrol truck on the driver’s side door. This crash is being investigated by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
