The blaze broke out at Riverside Park near Burnham Yacht Harbour on Wednesday, August 5, affecting an area of about 100 metres by 100 metres in Foundry Lane. Two fire crews from Maldon and Burnham attended the scene and extinguished the fire, which is believed to have been caused by a disposable barbecue. Mr Morgan stressed lighting fires or using disposable barbecues in these conditions is reckless and endangers lives. He said: "Park visitors, nearby residents and the emergency workers who are called out to tackle these fires are all placed in significant danger. "Do not use disposable BBQs, portable cooking equipment or light fires in our parks and open spaces during this hot weather.
