The case of bluetongue virus (BTV-3) was identified on a farm in Dumfries and Galloway and has raised concerns throughout the farming community. Finlay Carson, MSP for Galloway and West Dumfries, has written to Scotland’s chief veterinary officer, Dr Sheila Voas, seeking urgent clarification on the situation and its potential implications. Mr Carson said: "The confirmation of Scotland’s first case of bluetongue is a significant development and will understandably be causing concern for farmers across Dumfries and Galloway and beyond. "It is therefore essential that farmers receive clear, timely information and practical support as the situation develops." He also emphasised the need for updates on vaccine availability, government contingency plans, and ongoing disease surveillance in the region.
