A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow that blocks some or all sunlight. It will be the most complete eclipse seen from Britain since the total solar eclipse of August 1999, when Cornwall and parts of Devon briefly experienced darkness in the daytime. The next UK eclipse on a similar scale is not expected until 2081, while Britain’s next total solar eclipse is due in 2090.
