The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly named veteran quarterback Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback over third-year signal-caller J.J. McCarthy, meaning he'll lead the team when it hosts the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers on Sept. 13 to begin the season. Murray is entering his eighth NFL season. Murray then suffered a mid-foot sprain in Week 5 of the 2025 season and sat the final 12 games of the year. The Vikings selected McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft after trading up one spot with the New York Jets. In the week leading up to training camp, head coach Kevin O'Connell said both Murray and McCarthy would take first- and second-team reps.
