Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council had been considering the site of Panshanger Golf Club as a potential location for new facilities, which could have included a swimming pool and indoor sports amenities. The council launched a public consultation in July to gather residents’ views on the need for improved leisure facilities and the suitability of the golf club site. "However, there was no clear support for the Panshanger Golf Club site, alongside some concern about new homes.
