Two CSU political science professors, JB Bae and Julia Lee, have been selected as 2026-27 U.S.-Korea NextGen Scholars by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a competitive appointment recognizing their expertise in Korean and East Asian politics. The two-year, nonresident fellowship brings together mid-career specialists working on Korea with policymakers and opinion leaders in the United States and South Korea. “The fellowship provides a valuable opportunity to connect academic research with policy discussions on Korea and East Asia. Bae’s research examines how external threats shape political behavior, with a focus on Korean and East Asian security. It is a chance to engage directly with the policy community and explore the evolving relationships among the United States, South Korea and India,” Lee said.
