Public trust is the key to faster permitting, report finds

Public trust built through strong regulation and meaningful community participation could help mining projects advance faster by preventing conflicts and costly delays, a new report says.
The Trust, Accountability and Inclusion Collaborative (TAI) said this week that to have faster mining developments companies don’t need weaker regulation but rather establish more trust in the communities they are building.
This would bring regulators, mining companies and community representatives together to make decisions throughout the lifecycle of a project.
This committee would address environmental, social and cultural concerns before they become bigger issues throughout the development of the project.
The report suggests that there needs to be a new model for junior mining companies to operate, where exploration funding is tied to environmental and social initiatives.
