Former Fermanagh MLA sets sights on council comeback
['Annie Flynn']
The Fermanagh Herald
AFTER years away from elected politics, Richie McPhillips is making a comeback, putting his name forward as an independent candidate in next year’s council election.
The former SDLP councillor and MLA, who is putting his name forward as an Independent candidate, said he feels he still has something to contribute to the people of Fermanagh.
Mr McPhillips will also be hoping to gain votes from his councillor son Garbhan, who will not be contesting the next election.
Richie lost his Assembly seat by 58 votes in 2017 and was later unsuccessful in securing an SDLP council candidacy.
Now standing independently, he hopes to use his experience to improve services, with son Garbhan offering mentorship if elected.
