The Timber Fire in Monterey County has grown to 2,000 acres while remaining 5% contained, Cal Fire said Tuesday morning. All state parks in the Big Sur area are closed because of the massive blaze, Cal Fire said around 6:30 a.m. A shelter for evacuees remains at Carmel Middle School at 4380 Carmel Valley Road in Carmel. The shelter is providing evacuees with food, water, cots, blankets and comfort kits. The SPCA for Monterey County is also providing a dedicated sheltering area and support for people with pets.
