The Moldovan authorities have still not responded to numerous complaints from the Russian embassy regarding targeted actions carried out by Moldovan law enforcement officers against embassy staffers, the Russian embassy in Moldova said in a statement issued in connection with Chisinau’s decision to recall its Ambassador to Russia Lilian Darii for consultations. On July 19, Moldovan police officers stopped a Russian embassy bus in Chisinau, allegedly to check documents, but wound up removing the vehicle's diplomatic registration plates without explanation. Moldovan police officers threatened to detain Russian embassy staff and used force against them, in breach of international rules and practices. In connection with these incidents, Moldovan Ambassador Lilian Darii was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on July 21, where he was issued a protest. The Russian Foreign Ministry has said on numerous occasions that Russia seeks friendly relations with Moldova, but the West is using this country to pursue its anti-Russian policies and goals.
